复旦大学附属妇产科医院(原上海医科大学附属妇产科医院)的前身西门妇孺医院是由美国人玛格丽特.威廉逊（Margaret.Wiillianson）于1884年6月创建的一所美国基督教会主办的教会医院，为沪上首家妇孺医院。1992年被国家卫生部，世界卫生组织，联合国儿童基金会首批命名为“爱婴医院”，同年被市红十字会命名为上海市红十字妇产科医院，为卫生部三级甲等专科医院，也是国家卫生部国际紧急救援中心网络医院。医院创建时因其屋顶呈红色，一百多年来，广大市民亲切地称其为“红房子医院”，2003年上海市卫生局批准“上海市红房子妇产科医院”为其第二冠名。多次被评为上海市文明单位。
       百余年来，妇产科医院在中国妇产科学奠基人之一王淑贞教授以及几代妇产科专家教授、全院职工的共同努力下，已经成长为一家拥有370张住院床位（黄浦院区），14个临床科室，集妇科、产科、中西医结合科、计划生育科、新生儿科、妇产科研究所、上海市中西医结合月经病诊疗中心、上海市女性生殖内分泌疾病诊疗中心、上海市集爱遗传与不育诊疗中心等于一身，年门诊量80万余人次，住院病人2.3万余人次的全国知名大型妇产科专科医疗机构，近两年先后成为卫生部妇产科医院标准制定单位、上海市妇科临床质控中心、上海市出生缺陷一级预防指导中心、国家重点学科、上海市重点学科、国家精品课程和211工程重点学科建设项目单位；承担863课题、科技部十一五支撑计划课题以及国家自然科学基金重点项目等国家级重点课题。
      如今，妇产科医院杨浦院区（沈阳路128号）已正式投入使用，新院区占地50亩，建筑面积61624平方米，核定床位450张，集医教研为一体，已开设有妇科、产科、中西医结合科、计划生育科、乳腺科、宫颈疾病及新生儿科等专科服务。我们相信，今日的妇产科医院，将以更高的质量和效率为广大病患提供更优越的全方位服务，为中国妇产科事业的蓬勃发展贡献力量！
 

       
      The Obstetrics & Gynecology Hospital of Fudan University is an academic
center developed on the basis of Xi Men Women and Children Hospital (Margarret Willianson Hospital) – a missionary hospital and the first Women and Children Hospital in Shanghai - set up by an American lwoman, Ms. Margarret Willianson in June of 1884. It has adopted to its current name in 1985,which was then designated as “Baby Friendly Hospital ”by Ministry of Health (MOH),WHO and UNICEF among the first group in China in 1992.On the same year, it was also named as Shanghai Red Cross Ob & Gyn Hospital. In 1995, the hospital was accredited as an “AAA” tertiary care specialty hospital by MOH and serves as one of SOS network hospitals. Over the one hundred years, the hospital has been called by the local residents as “Red House Hospital” since the roof of its building was shining red under the sunshine. Therefore, Shanghai Red House Ob & Gyn Hospital was formally adopted as its secondary name with the approval by Shanghai Municipal Health Bureau in 2003. The hospital has been recognized as Model Unit in Shanghai over the past 10 years.
        Over the past hundred years, with the consistent efforts of generations of people at Shanghai Red House Ob & Gyn Hospital led by Prof. Shuzhen Wang , a pioneer of modern obstetric and gynecological services in China, the hospital has now developed into a national leading academic center specialized in women’s healthcare with 370 beds at Huangpu branch and 14 clinical and auxiliary departments, including Gynecology, Obstetrics, Integrated Medicine, Family Planning, Neonatology, Obstetrics and Gynecology Research Institute, Shanghai Integrative Integrated Medical Center for Menstrual Disorders, Shanghai Medical Center for Female Reproductive Endocinological Diseases, Genetics and IVF Institute China—USA Center, and etc. Every year, the hospital provides clinical service to over 800,000 outpatients and 23,000 inpatients. In the past few years, the hospital serves as the demonstration site for MOH hospital service standards for obstetrics and gynecology, Shanghai Clinical Quality Control Center for Gynecology, Shanghai guide center for primary prevention of birth defects. Many of its clinical programs have been recognized as State Key Specialties, Shanghai Key Specialties, National Model Programs and 211 Engineering Priority Specialty Building Projects. The research programs undertaken by the hospital includes 863 national key projects, 11th 5-years pillar research projects of Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and other national key research projects supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC).
       At the moment, a brand new facility, the Yangpu Branch of Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital located at No.128 Shenyang Road in Northeast Shanghai has been put into operation. This new facility occupies a space of 3.3 hectare with a total floor space of 61624 square meters, having a total capacity of 450 beds including Gynecology, Obstetrics, Integrated Medicine, Family Planning, Breast Surgery, Cervix diseases, Neonatology etc. The new facility will be better positioned for our clinical services, teaching programs and research functions. We are sure the new facility will enable us to provide more effective and efficient high quality service to our patients and will make greater contributions to the development of obstetrics and gynecology in China.
